In August 1956, Burnsville hosted the first Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair to celebrate the talent and dedicated work of the people in Burnsville and Yancey County, North Carolina. Today the tradition continues each year on the first Friday and Saturday in August. The two-day event draws artists, craftspeople, musicians and food vendors from North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and beyond, and attracts thousands of people to Burnsville Town Square. This year’s event will be held August 2-3, 2019, Friday & Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
The OLD TIMEY FALL FESTIVAL is held on September 28th, 2019 in Burnsville, NC. On Burnsville’s beautiful Town Square, this is a good old fashioned, “Old Timey” local Festival. This annual event is used to invite heritage-crafters to come out and demonstrate the old timey methods of producing their crafts. Antique tractors and cars are on display along with the local Farmer’s Market. Music for all ages, food, and rides and games for the kids are all part of this fun, family-friendly day.
